Pattern Shift
Hi! My name is Saskia de Feijter and welcome to the Pattern Shift podcast. In this podcast, I support overwhelmed small business owners in the fiber and needlecraft industry, helping them set up and organize their businesses for growth and personal well-being. Together, we can be a force for good and a counterbalance to fast fashion, helping makers craft garments and accessories slowly and more sustainably. You can be part of that change and make a profit in the process.

Summer tends to shake things up — especially if you’ve got kids at home, your routine is out the window, or you’re simply craving a break from the usual hustle. That’s why I’m hosting a gentle 6-week journaling challenge, right inside the Ja, Wol Community.
BuJo by the Sea is a relaxed, Bullet Journal–inspired journey.
Each day, from July 19 to August 30, you’ll get one simple prompt to help you:
- Set an intention
- Reflect on a mindful journaling question
- Choose one priority
- Log what happens with the original Bullet Journal bullets (• – ○ =)
You don’t need anything fancy. Just a notebook, a pen, and a few minutes a day.
This is a lovely way to experiment with the practice if you’re new to Bullet Journaling — or to return to it with fresh eyes if you’ve drifted away.
You can join for free — in our own Ja, Wol Community private BuJo by the Sea space.

Hi and welcome to Pattern Shift. I'm Saskia and this is going to be a really short episode. I'm going to talk to you about the Bullet Journal by the Sea, or Bujo by the Sea Summer Challenge. This is a challenge around bullet journaling that I'm hosting in my community. I've been working at this for a while. I am a certified bullet journal trainer and I wish that everyone experiences the magic of journaling in general and bullet journaling in particular. But I thought it was a really good idea to help you to really build this strong base for it, that I can do that for free and you will be so prepared if you ever want to learn more about bullet journaling. At the same time, if you don't, this can still be super valuable and have so many benefits for you. So welcome to Pattern Shift, and let me start by explaining what this challenge is all about. So I'm not on my usual recording spot, so I'm not using a fancy microphone. Hopefully this will sound okay. The episode I did last week and the week before were also about bullet journaling, so if you want to listen to them, it can give you a little bit of context about what bullet journaling is and what it can do for you. So this is basically the third of a three-part series about bullet journaling. In my last episode I had some sound issues and I haven't been able to fix them, but the other side of all of this is that I'm going to take a summer break. This is going to be the last episode for a while and I'll be back after summer and by then I'll have fixed it. It'll be fine. So for now, please forgive me if it's not the usual quality. It's all about what I'm saying, not how it sounds.
Speaker 1:Let's tell you about the things that we're going to focus on. We're going to do a few things over the next six weeks and it's going to be relaxed. It's going to be a journal-based invitation to find some structure without pressure. Just a notebook, a pen and a moment each morning at the beginning of the day to check in with yourself. That's all you really need. So we'll be focusing on mindful prompts and the core of the bullet journal method the daily ritual, the daily logging. We're going to set an intention and, don't be afraid, I have the intentions all prepared for you. You don't have to do that yourself now. You may, but you don't have to. Then we're going to journal on one simple thought. That's where you get a prompt each day and it's going to help you to learn how to reflect on your thoughts and your feelings. This challenge is built so that you can get accustomed to doing these things. We're going to choose one single priority for the day, which is going to be a challenge in itself for a lot of people, and we're going to log what happens during the day using the original bullet types the dot, the dash, the circle and the equal sign, so you can join the challenge for free.
Speaker 1:In the Yevil community. I made a special space that is privately, just for the challenge, so you won't enter the general community, just a separate space. But you'll get the idea of what the community is like. We're going to post the prompts there every day. The kickoff is tomorrow, july 19th, but the actual prompts start on Monday, 21st of July 2025. You can either go to communityya-woolcom or to patternshiftm to find your information, but the quickest way is to just go to the show notes right here and find the information, the link to sign up. If you go to patternshiftfm, you'll get a pop-up and the pop-up will sign you up for the challenge.
Speaker 1:So if you want some a little gentle structure over the summer and if you're curious about bullet journaling but not sure where to start, if you want to reflect, create and reset before the busyness of fall kicks in again, it's perfect to join our challenge. It's also a lovely way to stay connected with others who are building a business with intention, joy and care, as we like to do it in the Yavel sphere. So, just so you know, we are taking a break during the summer, during the challenge, as the podcast is not going to be here over the summer. I just wanted to say I hope you have a summer that is nourishing and calm, and even if it's a little bit chaotic at times. So if you're looking for a little anchor, come join us. I'll be journaling right alongside with you. Don't forget to eat and knit or stitch your fibers. See you in the community. Bye.
